City of Palmerston is taking steps to protect the health and safety of our community during the rapidly evolving COVID-19 situation.
Council’s approach may change with situational requirements and this will be under the guidance of the Australian and Northern Territory governments.
Council will close the Palmerston Recreation Centre, YMCA Palmerston Gym (located at the Palmerston Swimming and Fitness Centre), Palmerston Library Community Training Rooms and Council Community Halls from 12pm Monday 23 March 2020 in response to the Australian Government’s COVID-19 advice on public gatherings.
Council Community Halls include the Gray Community Centre, Durack Art Centre and Driver Resource Centre. Council will contact all booking holders on the closure arrangements.
The Palmerston Library and the Public Pool at the Palmerston Swimming and Fitness Centre remain open, with increased hygiene practices and social distancing requirements in place. Members of the public who are feeling unwell are urged not to visit these facilities.
Palmerston Library is at looking at delivering Storytime sessions virtually, but other weekly programs have been cancelled due to social distancing requirements. Council is also implementing click and collect borrowing options from this week and extending operating hours to provide flexibility for community members accessing resources, while actively monitoring the numbers of patrons at any one time.
Council is also investigating further additional virtual and online service options for the community, and these will be detailed once implemented.
Updates and details on affected events or services are continuing to be made on Council’s website, www.palmerston.nt.gov.au and Facebook page.
